Note from the Head
The Week that Was………
Many children have been meeting with the teachers for their Assertive Mentoring interviews this week; teachers have enjoyed hearing children talk about their pride in the achievements, both inside and outside school. A copy of the assertive mentoring forms will be given to parents during parent consultation evenings after half-term.
A football tournament for local primary schools was held here on Wednesday afternoon. We were very proud of our Year 5 team who played with great enthusiasm and good team spirit; thank you to Mr Whitehouse for organising this event and to Mrs Parker for coaching the team and helping on the day.
We held our harvest festival assemblies today; it was lovely to be able to share songs, dances and poems with parents, grandparents and senior citizens from our local community. Thank you to the PTA for providing refreshments and to all of you for sending in harvest gifts; these will be donated to the Godmanchester Foodbank.
Mrs Crozier took the choir to Hilary Lodge to sing Harvest songs to the residents there; the children were complimented on their singing – thanks to Mrs Crozier and Mrs Bryant, who rehearsed the music with the choir and class groups.
New Curriculum & Assessment briefing - a new National Curriculum came into force this September; teachers spent a lot of time last year reviewing our curriculum, to take account of the changes, and deciding how these could be incorporated into engaging, exciting and enjoyable learning experiences. Curriculum plans for each year group have been uploaded onto our website and teachers have communicated topic plans to parents in their class newslet-ters. The way children are assessed in schools is also changing. From this year, the progress of children in Years 1, 3, 4 and 5 will no longer be measured in levels (this will be the case for Years 2 & 6 next year). Clearly this has implications for our Assertive Mentoring process. If you would like to find out more about the changes, please come along to a New Curriculum & Assessment briefing on Thursday 23rd October at 7 p.m.
