Note from the Head
Well! Weren’t Years 3 and 4 lucky with the weather! Of course, we did order it especially. Pupils in lower KS2 had wonderful visits to Stibbington this week, exploring the rocks and soils of the local area; they particularly enjoyed fossil hunting in the quarry.
As you know, we held elections for the posts of house captain last week; all the candidates are to be commended for the time and thought they put into their election speeches.
Reception Reading & Phonics for Parents – These sessions are aimed at Reception parents and will be held on Tuesday 30th September at 9.15 a.m., 2.15 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. A separate letter has been sent out.
YR 1 & 2 Reading & Phonics for Parents – Mrs Cooper is planning to run parents’ information sessions on Reading & Phonics on Wednesday 24th September. She is keen to find out whether parents in Yr 1 & 2 would be interested in a Phonics/Reading session. Please complete and return the slip (click here) if you would find this helpful.
Parent Helper Meeting – We greatly value support from parents. If you would like to help in school, please come along to a Parent Helper meeting at 9.00 a.m. on Monday 22nd September in the Reference Library.
New Curriculum & Assessment briefing – a new National Curriculum comes into force this month; teachers spent a lot of time last year reviewing our curriculum, to take account of the changes, and deciding how these could be incorporated into engaging, exciting and enjoyable learning experiences. Curriculum plans for each year group will be uploaded onto our website shortly and teachers will communicate topic plans to parents in their class newsletters, which have came out this week.
The way children are assessed in schools is also changing. From this year, the progress of children in Years 1, 3, 4 and 5 will no longer be measured in levels (this will be the case for Years 2 & 6 next year). Clearly this has implications for our Assertive Mentoring process.
If you would like to find out more about the changes, please come along to a New Curriculum & Assessment briefing on Thursday 25th September at 7 p.m.
Harvest Festival – Our Harvest Festivals will take place at 9.15 a.m. and 2.15 p.m. on Friday 17th October. Senior citizens from the village will be invited to attend the assemblies so that the children can share their celebrations with the local community. Grandparents of children in school, and parents of children in the Reception classes, are also invited to attend. More details will be sent out nearer the time.
Brampton PTA – The BVSA has re-branded! The existing committee felt that changing the name of the parent-teacher association to Brampton PTA would make its purpose clearer to everyone in our community. The AGM for the Brampton PTA is coming up on 25th September at 7.30 p.m. There is a great group of friendly, enthusiastic and active parents who would really welcome some new committee members to bring fresh ideas and to help with fundraising. Meetings are good fun and wine and nibbles are on offer to help the AGM go with a swing!
