Note from the Head
The Week that Was………
It’s been rather an exciting week, one way and another! Yesterday, Santa Pod brought a drag racing car and motorbike into school; representatives spoke to the children about how the cars are made and powered. Many children were fascinated and asked really thoughtful questions about how the cars/bikes work. Thank you to Mr Whitehouse and Caroline Holden (parent) for organising this. Today, we have held our ‘Build it, Brampton!’ creativity day – KS2 pupils have been working in teams to build strong bridge and pyramid structures with workshop leaders from Architecture Workshops; from my office, I could hear lots of excited discussion about the best way to construct and support massive structures. Children in KS1 have been using Teifoc building materials, donated by Morgan Sindall our builders, to build castles and houses and Reception children have used a range of construction toys and materials to create their own buildings. Children have also been outdoors den building and building structures to withstand earth quakes; there have been lots of opportunities for them to use and apply their Maths, Design Technology and Science knowledge and skills. Pupils have also been developing their 5Rs – resourcefulness, resilience, reflectiveness and reciprocity, particularly! Morgan Sindall announced the winners of their design competition this week; the winning posters have been made into boards to be displayed around the site. Prizes for first, second and third places in each year group were awarded in our assembly on Monday. Thank you to Morgan Sindall for sponsoring this competition.
Perhaps the most exciting news for the school this week is that Katie Crozier has been awarded Primary School Music Teacher of the Year 2014 by Classic fm! The award is richly deserved since Katie has made a tremendous difference to the quality and enjoyment of music in our school. She gives generously of her time to plan for and rehearse the choir / orchestra, to put on concerts and to organise community performances, as well as helping teachers with music for special occasions. The award also recognises the quality of the music made by children in school and Yamaha will be donating some new instruments to enhance our music provision. Katie will be presented with her award at the Royal Albert Hall on 11th November at the end of the Schools Prom. Well done, Mrs Crozier!

We have changed our photographer this year but this has meant that school photos are a bit later than usual and will be taken over two days instead of one – on Tuesday 4th November and Wednesday 5th November. Over these two days individual school photos will be taken, along with photos of siblings in school (not including Brambles). If you have younger children and would like a picture of them with your school age child(ren), you can do this between 8.30 and 8.50am on either the Tuesday or Wednesday. In order to keep waiting times to a minimum, surnames A-M please aim to come on Tuesday and surnames N-Z on Wednesday.
